DHS gears up for Homecoming 2017
September’s cooler temperatures have arrived just in time for everyone’s favorite fall event: Denison High School’s traditional homecoming festivities featuring three days of non-stop fun and excitement.
In addition to the traditional crowning of the Homecoming Queen at halftime of the Denison vs. Abilene Wylie game on Friday September 15th, Homecoming 2017 will also feature a presentation of the Homecoming Court nominees and Sweethearts on Thursday, September 14th at 3 p.m. in the DHS Main Gym, followed by a grand parade down Main Street at 5:30 p.m. The annual DHS Alumni Reception at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will immediately follow the parade. A community-wide pep rally is set for 6:30 p.m. at Munson Stadium. Distinguished Alumni honorees as well as DHS Sweethearts will be presented on the field at Munson Stadium prior to the start of Friday night’s football game.
“It’s a whirlwind of super-fun activities that the whole community can enjoy,” said DHS Homecoming Sponsor Leanne Rogers. “We’re all very excited to welcome students, alumni and community members to Homecoming 2017. Needless to say, we’re expecting huge crowds and a packed Munson Stadium. We’re also very pleased to introduce 12 very active and involved seniors who will represent Denison High School as this year’s Homecoming Court.”
Taylor Dawes is the daughter of Rodney and Kathren Dawes, and a member of Sherman Bible Church. She is a four-year member of the DHS Varsity Volleyball team during which time she served as co-captain for two years while earning MVP and 1st Team All-District honors in 2015-2016. Taylor is also a three-year member of the Varsity Basketball team and a one-year member of the Varsity Track Team. Throughout her high school career, Taylor has been actively involved in the National Honor Society, Denison Youth Leadership Academy, Den-Teens, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the DHS Spanish Club for four years. She currently serves as Treasurer of the DHS Student Council and is a two-time winner of the Lady Iron Jacket Award. Her Royalty Presentation escort is Austin Emery. Her father, Rodney Dawes, will escort her Friday night during halftime ceremonies. Taylor says her college plans are undecided at the moment, but she’s certain God has a plan for her.
Courtney Gillespie is the daughter of Chris Gillespie. She is a member of New Beginnings Fellowship Church where she serves as part of the Worship Team. Courtney has served her fellow-students as Class President for two years. She is also a Student Council officer, the Project Coordinator for National Honor Society, an active member of Thespian Troupe 6319, a member of Den-Teens, and a member of the DHS Spanish Club. Courtney has played Varsity Volleyball for four years, serving as co-captain for two years. She has also served on the Leadership Team for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for two years. She will be escorted at Royalty Presentation by Carson Auten. Her father, Chris Gillespie, will escort her during halftime ceremonies. Courtney’s long-term plan is to attend medical school to become a doctor in the mission field.
Skylar Gilliam is the daughter of Keith and Cyndi Gilliam. She has served two terms on the Student Officer Board for Texas Thespians and is an active member of the National Honor Society. Skylar is also a proud advocate for Arts Education in public schools and a Division 1 award winner at the State UIL Band Solo and Ensemble contest. She will be escorted at Royalty Presentation by Mason Oliveri. Her father, Keith Gilliam, will escort her during halftime ceremonies at Munson Stadium. Skylar plans to continue her education in pursuit of a degree that will assist her in advocating for Arts Education.
Taylor Renae Greenameyer is the daughter of Jeff and Sheila Greenameyer. She has been a member of the DHS Varsity Volleyball team for four years, earning 1st Team All-District honors as well as Most Valuable Player her Junior year. She is also a two-year member of the DHS Varsity Basketball team. Taylor is a member of Future Farmers of America and a three-year member of the DHS Student Council, during which time she served on the Board of Directors. Taylor will be escorted for Royalty Presentation by Mateo Reyes. Her father, Jeff Greenameyer, will be her escort during halftime ceremonies. After graduation, Taylor plans to attend a university to study Kinesiology.
D’Nai Cassianna Massey is the daughter of Robert and Dena Massey, and a member of Sherman Bible Church. During her four years at DHS, she has served on the DHS Student Council as well as Captain of the Drill Team. She competed in Track & Field as a 200 meter runner and as a pole vaulter, earning District Champ honors and qualifying for Regionals in the pole vault event as well as setting a new school record. D’Nai will be escorted at Royalty Presentation by Kade Finch. Her father, Robert Massey, will escort her during halftime ceremonies. After high school, D’nai plans to attend the University of Texas to study Law.
Brylie Maxson is the daughter of Toby Maxson and Erica Drieselman. She is a member of Sherman Bible Church where she is a Youth Singer. During her tenure at Denison High School, Brylie competed in Select Soccer and Varsity Soccer. She is also an honor student, an active member of the DHS Student Council, and a member of the DHS Spanish Club. As a Musical Theatre student, she performed in the DHS production of “Sister Act.” Brylie’s student escort for Royalty Presentation is Seth Thomas. Her father, Toby Maxson, will escort her during halftime ceremonies at Munson Stadium. Brylie plans to attend college to pursue a nursing degree, specifically in the neonatal field because of her love for babies.
Erin Plemmons is the daughter of Michael and Tamera Plemmons. During her years at Denison High School, she competed in Track in the 100-yard dash event as well as in Powerlifting, including two years of Powerlifting competition at the Regional level. Erin also was an active participant in DHS Culinary Arts and served as a Jacket Greeter. Her student escort for Royalty Presentation is Casey Thompson. Her father, Michael Plemmons, will escort her during halftime ceremonies. After graduation, Erin plans to attend Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts where she will be working on the art of Fine Dining.
Kenli Jane Powell is the daughter of John and Kelli Powell, and a member of Park Avenue Church of Christ. She is a three-year member of the DHS Varsity Volleyball team during which time she was named to the Academic All-District Volleyball Team and Honorable Mention All-District Team. Kenli also received Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards as a Varsity Volleyball player. She played Basketball and Softball her freshman year and is a member of the DHS Student Council. Kahlin Hall will be her student escort during Royalty Presentation. Kenli’s father, John Powell, will escort her during halftime ceremonies. Kenli plans to attend the University of North Texas to pursue a degree in Business.
Suzietta Smith is the daughter of Robert and Sandra Smith, and a member of Sherman Bible Church. During her tenure at Denison High School, she has been a member of the DHS Varsity Track team for four years, a member of the Varsity Basketball Team for three years, and a recipient of the Lady Jacket Spirit Award for two years in a row. Suzietta has been actively involved in numerous clubs, including the National Honor Society, Den-Teens, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Denison Youth Leadership Academy and DHS Spanish Club. She served on the Student Council Board of Directors and Secretary for the Class of 2018. Ty McFail will be her student escort for Royalty Presentation. Her older brother, Robert Smith, will escort her during halftime ceremonies. After graduation from high school, Suzietta plans to pursue a degree in Sports Marketing at Texas Tech University.
Aubyn Victoria Thompson is the daughter of James and Darla Thompson. She played Varsity Soccer all four years at DHS, serving as captain for three years. She also competed in Cross Country all four years, earning District Champ and Most Valuable Player awards in 2016. Aubyn was also a member of the Varsity Track team her junior year, competing in the 400 meter dash and the 4x4 Relay. During her tenure at DHS, she has been a member of the National Honor Society, a member of Thespian Troupe 6319, Secretary for the DHS Student Council and an officer for the Class of 2018. Aubyn is also a 4-year member of the Spanish Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Denison Youth Leadership Academy and Den-Teens. Her student escort for Royalty Presentation is Wilson Kirkbride. She will be escorted by her father, James Thompson, during halftime ceremonies. After graduation, Aubyn plans to attend Abilene Christian University to become a Nurse Practitioner.
